Sudan is a diverse and multicultural country, located at the crossroads of Sub-Saharan Africa and East Africa. It is bordered by seven countries: the Central African Republic to the southwest, Chad to the west, Egypt to the north, Eritrea and the Red Sea to the northeast, Ethiopia to the southeast, Libya to the northwest, and South Sudan to the south.
The population is 45.7 million according to the 2022 census, and its area is 1,886,068 square kilometers, making it the third-largest country in Africa by area and the third-largest in the Arab League.
The capital, Khartoum, is located at the confluence of the White Nile and the Blue Nile. Its largest city is Omdurman (part of the greater Khartoum area), and its main port is Port Sudan on the Red Sea.
The relationship between Sudan and Canada is a well-established one, based first and foremost on an active Sudanese community in Canada. The bilateral partnership between the two countries will continue to deepen and develop.
Sudan is widely known as the cradle of great civilizations. Famous kingdoms such as Kerma, Kush, and Meroë flourished in the ancient world and made outstanding contributions to humanity.
Sudan possesses vast untapped natural resources, including extensive areas of land. Agricultural land constitutes about 63% of Sudan's area and is suitable for growing a wide range of crops and raising livestock.
Sudan's foreign policy focuses on preserving its territorial integrity, promoting regional economic cooperation, integrating into African structures, and contributing to the promotion of global security.
There are tremendous opportunities for Sudan and Canada to work together to invest their great potential to achieve fruitful cooperation and a future partnership in all fields.
